Samuel and Ridgewell off to Birmingham City?
Written by Damian

This is one of those rumours that just won't go away and it smells. It smells because Liam Ridgewell is a future captain of England and if he was to move on it would be a tragedy.

JLloyd Samuel has been leaving Villa for some time and doesn't seem to want to fight for his place. He'll be happy getting a salary increase for moving on a free and when a player leaves like that I tend to forget any good they did for the club.

The Samuel thing is just a rumour but if he did leave I'm sure he'd get a horrible reception by the Holte End next season but for me it wouldn't even register; he wouldn't be worth it. But the Samuel thing is just a rumour; we know Bruce likes Ridgewell as he tried to get him on loan earlier in the season.

Now, Martin O'Neill knows what he wants and maybe Ridgewell isn't in his plans but he's a central defender who has done well for Villa and has bags of promise.

He's still only 22 years old and he's going to get much better. The rumour of Distin coming, also on a free, would surely send out the wrong signals to Ridgewell and it may force the players hand. I'd be very disappointed if he left and I can't help but thinking it would be a mistake by Villa and one that could come back to haunt us.

On the plus side, the Daily Mirror today have Titus Bramble going to Birmingham City which could mean that Martin O'Neill has said no to any chance of Ridgewell leaving. Still, I'd love Bramble to move to Birmingham City, it would be quite fitting; a Championship player playing for a Championship side.

I notice that Ridge has pulled out of the England U21 squad for "personal reasons". I wouldn't like to see him move on from Villa, especially to Blues - what a disasterous career-move that would be for the kid!

Just seen Ridgewell coming out of the blues, do you think he was buying a season ticket?

Ridgewell won't be off to Blues, he'll either stay or move elsewhere, but it won't be to Blues, he knows how much stick he'd get for it.
Samuel can go there if he wants, they're just his kinda team - no need to fight for a place because he'd be one of their best players.

Why does Birmingham always buy our old players? its funny how when they start playing again in the prem, they'll start saying there the best team in the mids. but Villa, West Brom, Wolves and Coventry City are far bigger clubs than them with a far fuller trophie cabinet.

Samuel will make a decent player, just not at the Villa. Ridgy is a class act, I just think that at his age he needs regular games.

Ridgewell is definatly one for the futre, if it were down to me i'd offer him on loan to the winner of the play offs as he would be kept local and gain sm more prem experience

When the blues were first promoted I used to dread the derbies because blues did have a chance to beat us with the players they had. This season is different, I CAN'T WAIT!!! With the expectation of new big arrivals, the promotion of the clubs brand, the MON and Randy factor and the feel good factor we have moved up 3 gears. Blues i am sorry to say (am I:-0)) have no attraction about them. There are too many clubs with money in the Prem now and the players available will choose other clubs apart from BCFC. Carry on going for the Titus Brambles, your Andy Coles (4th choice at Pompey) because these players will not keep you in the prem. This is a pre-season i am so looking forward to, not only for the Villa, but also to see who the blues are going to sign. If you do stay up, ask the council to put on another open top parade, cause you did this season and you still won f**k all!

Oi Thickoes from Aston - obviously the finer points of commercial psychology are lost on your poor pale grey matter!. The reason Brucie stated that he could not afford Cole's wages was because he would rather dispose of him in a manner in which his dignity remained unaffecetd rather than telling him to sod off because he was not of sufficient quality to be retained in the squad. PS Aston Viler are no more than a failed foreign businessmans plaything. Look on the internet and checkout his failed businesses. If it wasnt for his daddy's money, he'd be eating stale crusts on abench in Central Park by now... smilies/grin.gif. Cant wait to see the demise of his latest business venture!!. smilies/grin.gif

Bluenosesol, you really are making yourself look very silly. Small Heath never let us down. They let their own followers down time after time, but never us. We know what you are, where you are and where you are returning to.

Sorry, forgot to mention Bluenosesol. Our Chairman and board want part of Villa, FACT! Brady wanted out last year and Sullivan was involved with one of the consortiums to buy WHU, which mean't he would have to offload his interests in BCFC. Also seen some of your games on sky, awful football, are you Watford in Blue??

not gonna bother bickering with the bluenoses, they know the score and they're losing. back to ridgewell, don't think he cuts it as he makes too many mistakes. at 22 he should have come on leaps and bounds by now as he's had 2 1/2 seasons but i don't think he has. cahill is a far better prospect and o'neill knows it. o'halloran is on his way into the senior squad and has three years on ridgwell in which to develop. mon is gonna sign a top defender anyway so something has to give(ridgewell). Note to ridge, Don't ruin your career and reputation by joining THEM, join a club with a future. As for that other player Samuel whatshisname, bye bye forgot you already take the money and run if you can't be bothered to fight. Up The Villa. Looking forward to those derby's. 6 big ones on the board.

It always happens with birmingham cty, a small club trying to compensate their empty trophie cabinet and crap squad and way of playing football, by trying ot intimidate those above them! Your tricks won't work this time. you won't beat the o'neil team of next season. just think we can buy any player we want.

To all you pathetic Bluenoses - We haven't seen you on here since when you went down. Typical part time fans singing when you are in the Prem and then crawling under your rock when you go down. I guess you will be heading back to the same rock when we send you down again

I'm glad the Blues are coming up. It will be a good run out for the B team whilst the others take a rest, how great would it be if we did that!!. Funny how even though we have had a tough couple of years we still manage to finish above them. They can't seem to finish higher than us even when we're playing crap and going through a bit of a crisis. Sorry Blues, this train has left and you weren't even at the station to wave it goodbye!!

The bluenoses want to be Villa fans, which is why they're on here! Otherwise they'd be reading Small Heath fansites. Or don't they have any fans that can work a computer? smilies/cheesy.gif

Agree with MJ's comments.

Ridgewell will do well for the bluenoses if he moves there. I'm not sure he has enough quality to break back into the mighty Villa team though. Laursen, Mellberg, and the excellent Cahill are all ahead of him.

Blues will struggle next season. Their relegation has put them another year behind the ever present premiership elite. I hope they do stay up so we can open up another can of Wupass!!!
