Not so shocking: Most don't like the new badge

I didn't particularly want to run a poll on the new badge as it appears it's not really a case of if we like it or not, but a case of should there be a star, should it be AVFC or should the lion be wearing gloves.

I didn't run a quick question because of those reasons but others did. I've waited for the others polls to get a few votes and here are the answers.

Over on Heroes & Villains you'll see that 64% of the 114 votes don't like it. Over on Vital Villa you'll see that only 34.88% of the people that have voted actually like the new badge.

These figures are likely to change as both polls are ongoing but they both carry similar results.

It will be a grower if you give it time as it will have to be, however I've read somewhere else today that Shrewsbury Town had a new badge and the supporters didn't like it and under pressure the club changed it. Can you see Aston Villa changing this one?

If Doug Ellis had come up with this badge would it be accepted? I'm disappointed that they've decided to put AVFC in there and that there is a star but we'll probably have to live with it. We'll be putting others up fairly soon and you'll get a vote to see which one you prefer; we're even going to be including a surprise entry.

Lastly, I'm still waiting on answers to my two questions that I sent in yesterday and as soon as we hear something I'll let you know. But you can still ask new CEO Richard FitzGerald something here.

The lion is yellow and we got the star, so I'm happy about that. When I cast my vote I also went for a circular crest instead of a shield, and I'm disapointed it went the way of the shield. What's weird is they printed the vote stats on the press release and went in the opposite direction to the votes on almost everything!

The badge isn't really that important now is it?
I wouldn't expect that was what Villa fans were looking for when they voted for what they wanted..but this is to resemble our brilliant history as we had that shield in one of our greatest periods as a club. The star is very important in my opinion, it is our greatest achievement and for a club of what we are now (middle-table squad) that is something to be proud of.

I think most people will agree that the new 'BADGE' is a grower. I keep having a look at it on the villa website and it doesn't look too bad on a claret background. So hopefully when nike release our kit for next season the thing will look ok, all depends on what they decide for the away kit though, but i have faith. A couple of things i'm not too sure on though - Not keen on AVFC, Aston Villa F.C would have been better. Don't know about the star either. Like i said i think its a grower. It would be interesting to see their actions if the majority actually still don't like it in a few months. I wonder what they'll do then. It would also have been interesting to have seen the shortlist of maybe the last four then have voted on a favourite. Hay Ho. such is life.
UP THE VILLA. 3-1 win on sat.

Absolute sh*t. Looks like a kid has designed it. Very disapointing.

It is a grower, certainly not as bad as what everyone makes out it is. It represents everything about the club, I agree that AVFC shouldn't be on it, and i'd have prefered 'Aston Villa Football Club' but what's done is done, it won't stop me backing the team.

While it's not what everyone would have liked we've now got it so I suppose we should just get used to it.

I know after today I am ...

Why should we get used to it? Why should we put up with a change that looks awful. Its amateurish, unprofessional and not a brand seller. Look at that badge its plain and simple, its blatantly easy so the little people in Asia in the Nike sweat shops can make/stitch/sew.

What was wrong with the old badge. AVFC is short and lazy the words Aston Villa are elegant and traditional.

As for Shrewsbury didn't Coventry city have there badge changed and reverted back to after fan pressure?

As for official polls why couldn't the club produce a questionnaire on a match day known to get full attendance with questions or even pictures of different styles of badges. They could be printed in a programme and just have a few kiosks so they can be handed in and collated.

The question is, is Randy and his band of American brothers fiddling a bit to much...?

seen as the decision went aginst the vote, one can only assume that it had something to do with the new corporate pay masters ego. Dont tell me life long villa fans want to go into battle with this as their crest! It captures nothing, but a vague aknowledgment of a colour scheme!

Thanks

It looks pants!! Things can grow on you, like warts - it's not always a good thing!

Weak, insipid and toothless - is that really what you want to see 'shining' out from Villa Park and representing our club?

Spurs and Arsenal made the rebranding jump and did it well (imho) their badges look like some time, effort and design know how went into the creation.

If they wanted to go down the route of tradition then revert to the original crest, attempting to recreate that look so poorly is embarrassing. Star or no star, circle or shield, it's the bad execution of typography and lion emblem that let's this design down so much and makes our club look clueless.

The badge is very important and we should be encouraged to voice our opinions, it's us who will be buying the shirts etc. with this feeble looking effort on it. Good idea about Saturday Satch.

We are all passionate about the team and results, this is our identity surely it's worth being bothered about?

It's dreadful, truly dreadful. I'm so shocked that something as bad as this could pass the board by. It's like mediocrity never goes away when you live in North Birmingham...

We've got a new badge! stop moaning about it and get behind the club... everybody will love it soon. It's not about if there's a star on it or the lion's on the toilet, who care's! It represents our club and who else would be AVFC? some people are stupid!!! The club is moving in the right direction and trying new things which we have been wanting for ages and everybody moans over the smallest of details. No wonder Doug was to scared to do anything new!

It's 24 hours on and I still feel the new AVFC badge is appalling and very amateurish as a visual design. I have read most the views today. I feel the designs I have seen with these blogs on offical Aston Villa Website by dedicated and true Villa fans are so much better than this new AVFC badge. To me, they reflect a strong quality brand, the history, the future of Aston Villa FC.

Imagine the PR that Randy and this new management team would get with the supporter base of Aston Villa fans across the globe, if they put out a statement that said they were withdrawning the new AVFC badge.

Sorry guys but on this occasion you made poor business and marketing decision with the new AVFC badge.

But life goes on ........... 8)

Well said Craig L

With the amount old Randy has spent on our club so far (players, training groung, hotel etc.) he could have his picture on there for all I care. What surprises me is that a lot of people seemed not to be bothered about the naming rights on the stadium(which bothered me more than the badge, as it will always be 'villa park'. My suggestion would be if you don't like the badge/crest just use the same outlook and think 'it'll always be the old badge to me'. I actually don't think the badge is that bad, would like to see some claws though and would prefer it to have the words Aston Villa on there but there we are. Given that it'll be the size of the referees note book when it's on the shirt you probably wouldn't make out most of it anyway. Personally, I'm jusst glad we've got some people running the place and putting some money in rather what we've endured for the last two decades. I guess the fact that we are talking about what the badge should look like, is evidence of the fact that we are fast moving forward, this time last year we were complaining about DO'L, Doug, lack of money, ambition etc. etc.

The main thing is we're all on the same side - UTV (That's 'Up the Villa' for those unsure of what the V stands for) ;)

Stop talking rubbish, the new badge is absolutely fine. It looks good on the Bodymoor Heath training ground, and I'm pleased with it.

like i've aid, i think it looks generally okay. i've just got an issue with AVFC instead of Aston Villa and the star ...

they could have put that star above the badge or made a bigger one and put it on top of everything .. i.e. the sign that says Bodymoor Heath ...
