Martin O'Neill lining up move for Artur Boruc

I'm not surprised that the manager is going after another keeper, the surprise for me is that he's going back to Celtic and Artur Boruc. It's not just a surprise but a worry.

It's not that I don't think Sorensen is a good keeper I just don't think going where we want to go we need a better one. I'm not a big fan of keepers and central midfielders who have been relegated; they're two important roles in the team.

In case you didn't know, Artur Boruc is Polish and he may be most remembered by football fans for saving the 89th minute penalty against Manchester Untied in this seasons Champions League match at Old Trafford.

My worry, which is probably nothing, is that the manager is going back to Celtic too often. It's probably not a worry because he wants players that he believes in, so like I said it's probably nothing.

Artur Boruc would be a good signing. He'd be good because I don't think he's any worse that what we've got and I'd quite fancy he'd be a little better.

First of all, O' Neil is a great manager and will prove 2 be over the coming seasons...secondly the signings he's made from Celtic. Petrov was crap in his first season for Celtic, I mean really bad. When O' Neil came in he transformed Petrov into a player, at his best, he's box to box, can make Ljuneberg type runs into the box and score goals, I have been watching him for Aston celtic and he has been poor but the word is his wife aint too happy down there but I woudnt say he was worth the 8 million aston paid 4 him. Thirdly, Shaun Maloney, he came through the youth at Celtic and O Neil would hardly give him a game and he didnt look much of a player till Strachan came to Celtic. He made Maloney a player, in fact Maloney was our best player last year. This year he was in and out with injury and was kept out the team by Aiden McGeady (Who would be a far better signing but a more expensive one) I feel maloney has left 4 the premiership too early just like when Charlie Nicholas left Celtic too early, he's not fully developed as a player yet and he has a real uphill struggle but the potential is there. Fourthy, Artur Boruc. Martin O' Neil never signed a good keeper when he was with Celtic. Strachan signed Boruc and he has been the best keeper ive ever seen at Celtic in my lifetime. I mean, Poland had a s**t world cup but Boruc was outstanding for them, he has also been superb in the champions league this year and was a huge help in Celtic topping their group ahead of Man U and Benfica and getting us into the last 16. I would hate to see him leave for any less than ã6 million. O Neil would be better going 4 Craig Gordon of Hearts, the scottish internationalist keeper, he's just as good as Boruc and he is unsettled at Hearts but the owners of Hearts r mental so it would be a tough deal 2 make.

O'Neill is astute enough to make his decisions, Steve Claridge said before the Reading game that the way he manages is to have a set system, and the players he buys are simply to improve on the ones he has, everyone has a specific role in the team, and he only buys people who he knows will do a job for him. In saying this O'Neill's transfer record hasn't been too bad so far, Carew has done well for us, Maloney looks like a steal, and Bardsley is OK (but by no means great). Young is still ahem young and I feel we'll see him at his best next season, the only real problem so far is Petrov who despite his blistering start against West Ham and a couple of others seems to have faded away, but everyone says that this is how he started at Celtic too. Boruc is supposed to be a very good keeper, and to be fair Sorenson isn't bad, but that's just it, he isn't bad. But I think there could be more twists in this, Niemi could be available in the summer with the debacle going on at Fulham, and so could a couple more.

Boruc is a good keeper, but we should broaden our horizons and look at (like Craig Agnew says) Craig Gordon of hearts. We need a mix of a GK who has potential, but is not a raw talent. Gordon is that, but I would also like a flutter at Scott Carson, who will struggle to hold a place at the scousers. smilies/grin.gif

Artur Boruc would be an exellent signing, he's a player with fantastic potential, when ever i see him play he always looks like a goalkeeper which matches the calibre of Chech, Reina or Cudicini etc. Villa need to spend big in the summer, but also grab some little gems, Boruc is one of them. it wouldn't surprise me if we did end up signing him, that the big guns start fishing?

Available Outfield players are in abundance season after season but good Goalkeepers are a lot harder to come by, usually the clubs who are lucky enough to have one wont let them go, so for me it begs the question "if Boruc is so good, why would Celtic want to sell him" I have never been a fan of Sorenson and I'm sure Arsenal breathed a sigh of relief when they offloaded Taylor, so where does that leave us. Neither will want to stay as #2 no matter who comes in, so we could be looking at two new Goalkeeping signings but however it pans out Martin O'Neil must get it right first time. Aston Villa have had their ups and downs in the past regarding the Goalkeeping position and I think it is about time more consideration was given to the quality of the next purchase, bargain basement players are fine, but not in the Goalkeeping position. We spend millions on players like Ashley Young and I'm sure it will reap its rewards, but its a known fact that a very good Goalie can be worth his weight in points at the end of a season, so I hope that the scouts scoured all the leagues in Europe as well as the UK.
