It looks like the clueless folk at the FA have given second choice Steve the Andorra game to 'turn it around' and keep his job. Fools.
The very fact he was second choice was reason enough not to hire him in the first place but the FA have demonstrated again they really don't have an idea. We'll see if second choice Steve has an idea tomorrow night by playing Gareth Barry or not.
The Aston Villa Academy team could probably go out and beat Andorra and when England do it tomorrow night expect second choice Steve to be telling us it's all coming together. I heard him on the radio yesterday referring to 'football people' and it reminded me of our previous incumbent. Is second choice Steve a big a fool as him?
Onto Barry; I'm not the biggest Barry fan but I must hold my hands up and say he is a natural left sided player and should have played ahead of Carragher and Lennon the other night.
I've got this philosophy that we don't need a manager at national level but should have a selection committee which picks the best three players for a position based on tactics.
These players are all multi-millionaires who are playing for some of the biggest clubs on the planet with the best managers. Why would anyone think for a moment they need to listen to a manager that has only ever won the League Cup, once.
I know it will never happen but it just seems a little silly to think that these players actually need to be told what is required of them when they pull on the England shirt. Club football is different, but the national team shouldn't be this difficult.
Our Barry would be fourth or fifth best on the left but because nobody is fit he should be playing. It's foolish to be playing players out of position when you've got players fit enough who play in that position week in week out in the squad.
I won't be watching as I've given up watching England but I'll be looking to see if our Barry gets a game the next morning; it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't but seeing as there has been a lot of press about it this week I reckon he'll be picked and no doubt he'll score as I expect everyone to get a goal or two against Andorra; the 163rd best team in the World according to FIFA.
