It looks like Maloney is coming

Martin O'Neill has confirmed he is trying to sort out a deal to bring Celtic star Shaun Maloney to Aston Villa by the end of the night.

He told the official site "He is a player I obviously know a great deal about and we are hoping something can be done before midnight. It's all very last minute as can often be the case with these things - but we are doing everything we can."

It might very well be last minute but I'm hoping he comes now rather than the summer and I'm pretty sure if a pre-contract deal can be struck Celtic will let him go now, wouldn't you?

I remember when we first mentioned this rumour in October last year, loads of Celtic fans didn't want him to go and lots of Aston Villa fans said we were just making it up.

Now, all of a sudden, Celtic fans don't care. Very strange and very nice, again, that you heard it here first.

Additionally it appears the deal is done. According to reports out of Scotland the player has signed for ?1mn. A bit much in my opinion, if true, seeing as we could have got him in the summer for free, but probably good business in the long run.

he was well treated by Celtic while injured -what else would you expect from a man of Martins integrity?-hence mixed feeling re departure.he could struggle with you-good dead ball and can cause chaos in the oppositions penalty area

Maloney has only had 2 starts this season. We have more than one player who plays in this position. The rumour is that the deal is £1M.Good business for celtic

Shaun was fabulous for us last year, but the year prior and this year he has been plagued with injury - if the wee man wants pastures new, then fair enough.
He leaves a rather bad smell behind tho' ... Celtic bent over backwards for Shaun when he had the cruciate ligament injury, even to the extent of extending his contract while injured. Suppose it's just football - don't think the wee man will hit the hits again tho'.

STAR ??

Dont think so, money grabbing injury prone wee scrote.

You are welcome to him.

The reason why celtic fans don't care is because he's been injured all season and has hardly featured. He had one good year (last season) and done sod all before or since. He's talented enough - but he'll get found out in the premiership.

If you want to turn your back on Celtic, then Celtic can turn its back on you. Simple as that. Celtic stood by him when his career was threatened by injury. He repays us by having one good season and then buggering off. The good season wasn't this season btw. This season he's been pants.
Thanks for the cash. More than Man Yoo gave us for Liam Miller. They gave us zip which proved to be a fair reflection of his worth.

i'll be sad to see him go but he has left on a sour note.
the hoops stuck by him while he suffered a bad injury(and even gave him a payrise whilst out of action)
he knows were on a limited budget up here but he obviously wanted more money than the hoops could offer him..
good luck to the wee-man but i think he'll live to regret this move as the grass is'nt allways greener on the other side
out off all the former hoops players to leave the club
only henrik has went on to win things at other clubs and shaun aint no henrik larsson

Sean is a great dead ball expert. However Celtic are overloaded in this position. If he was that great he would have managed to get a La Liga team! He will regret this move in a year or so, he has left a huge club for some bigger wages at a smaller club in an overrated league!

so giving him the title "injury-prone" is a little premature. After the older players MON brought in this summer to stretch the squad a little, I certainly like the youth movement he's created this January.

If ellis was still in charge he would have waited to the end of the season to sign. This shows our intent, to pay a million to bring him in now, more than anything this has proven the changes going on. Great work Villa, Keep it up.

Yes, he might become a flop in the greatest league in the universe, but,at least he's giving it a go. Just because Celtic stood by him whilst he was injured. Does that mean he owes Celtic for the rest of his days? Would you stay in your present job, if someone else was offering you a better package elsewhere? You Bull*******g hypocrites. Celtic is only a family in the metaphoric sense. He's free to do what he chooses, just like you. Going to work under MON at a developing club playing against/alongside better players for better lolly isn't a bad call really. I hope he proves all you sorry faces wrong. A million quid for the only player to be voted players player and young player award. Thanks very much!! Gew on Shaun..

Some might be bitter, I think it unlikely, Celtic have 2 players better in that position so why would we be bitter?
As for the greatest league in the world (certainly more money than Scotland with better quality) but you lot really are so insular!! You just eat up everything your OWN media tell you! Spain and propably Italy's leagues in everybody elses eyes outwith Britain is superior. Oh except some players that come for the money and tell you all what you want to hear. That it is to play in the greatest league! Total sh**!....its for the money in most cases

Read the comments your bigoted pals write. Because he wants to move, for whatever reason, you just can't be happy for him or slate Villa for some bizarre reason. One of ' your lot ' wrote in planet celtic.." Absolute scumbag, I hope somebody snaps his ligaments or knifes him in the street. " No wonder he hot footed it out of Celtic. As for the EPL, I have seen Bundesliga, La liga and all the rest of the crap. In the main they are technically superior, but, you can't beat the frenetic energy and buzz of a premiership game. Some of your compatriots like Dalglish, Souness, Wark, McFadden, Collins, Hansen did alright in England. It's not personally your fault, but, you're in a s*** league with very poor quality which nobody watches. You can't berate players for wanting to move out.

as i have already said i wish Shaun the best of luck at villa.
i think saint martin was the best Celtic manager since willie maley and the immortal big jock stein, and i hope martin, robbo and steve walford can take villa back to where the should be(challenging for the title and in europe every season).
we are not all bitter and twisted up here!!!
but you villa fans dont know the half of it
the crap we were fed by his agent was sickining
"shaun wants to stay at celtic"
"shaun loves celtic"
"its not about the money"ect.ect.ect
then at the last minuet he's off!
the rumors going round up here is that the agent had a personal agenda against wee strachan because wee strachan bad mouthed him in the press
to be honest i think the bhoy was badly advised by THAT agent!!
Good luck villa and i hope we meet in the champions league in the not to distant future
HAIL HAIL
