Is Martin O'Neill after Teemu Tainio from Spurs?
Written by Matthew

He's a player who can adapt to pretty much any position in the midfield and reports this morning suggest Aston Villa are after him.

Spurs look set to lose out on the fight to sign Watford youngster Ashley Young after it was confirmed that Watford have accepted an offer for the player and if these reports are true they could be losing a fans favourite also.

Tainio is a Finnish international who has played at Spurs since 2005, joining from French side Auxerre.

Considered injury prone he's apparently fit and ready to resume his playing career. Could Aston Villa be his next team?

Have not really seen much of Tainio to make a comment on him but things are starting to look a bit more positive now eh!

I'm a spurs season ticket holder and I can assure you Taino is not a fans favourite. Where you got that from I don't know. He definately should not be in our starting line up yet consistently gets picked, Maybe this is due to injuries but I still don't think he's worthy. every week he is the obvious week link in our midfield. i read an article on skysports a few days ago where he stated he wanted to be the next Davids of the club (whatever that means) and was worried he was planning to stick around. This is good news. I'd accept anything over 75k

He looked good for Spurs when he first joined and if he can provide that speak our midfield needs then go for him! He might be cheap compared to some of the other players in the league.

I still reckon we should go for Joey Barton, he's immense and is getting better all the time.

I hope there is no truth in this, Tainio is a really good player, vastly underrated and does the dirty work in midfield. Would be surprised if this came to anything.

I'm a Spurs fan and Tainio is quality, very underrated but as written is VERY injury prone, you will be lucky to get 20 league games out of him although the 20 he plays he will be worth it. Any chance of a swap with Barry? 2.5m Tainio.

I have been to most Spurs game in the last 2 years and Tainio is more than a squad player at best. I dont know what it is that Jol see's in him but he obviosly likes him. Spurs are overloaded with midfielders so let Tainio,Murphy and Ghaly go, bring back Routledge and play with width- Lennon & Routledge, leaving Jenas,Huddlestone,Malbranque and Zokora for the middle. We should also sign Ashley Young, he will only stagnate at Aston Villa, I cant believe he turned down West Ham but is considering a move to Villa!!!

Move to Spurs Youngy and you will be knocking on the door of the national team in months

I'm a Spurs fan and I love Tanio. He doesn't have buckets of skill but he has enough. More importantly, he has the desire and energy to close players down, chase a ball or what might look to be a lost cause. MJ likes him as asquad player - so do I. Tanio stays a Spur.

i dont care if young does not join us...at least we have now admitted we have a bid accepted, there is now a light at the end of the tunnel.

i do think he will sign, he is mates with gabby and who could turn down the chance of playing under o'neil, and staring in a line up that would include gabby and moore in the future, the pace there is scary.

I think tainio would be a good adition, ignore the daft cockney saying anything over 75k he would accept, he is a good creative midfielder who is not scared to shoot from distance and has a range of passing. for 3 mil that would be a good signing too

Tainio was a major part of what Spurs achieved last season. He is industrious, committed and good technically - he's a Martin O'Neill player. The drawback is he rarely plays three games together...if he's fit though you've got yourself a player

I am a Spurs fan, I have seen quite a bit of Tanio anad would like to keep him, but he should not be a starter unless we are desperate. If selling him means we can start with Zakora, then it is a worthy sacrafice.

Tanio is too slow to play along side Huddlestone, and I dont want to see Hudds dropped.

Out of interest, what makes you guys think you can take players off of clubs in the same position as you? I dont mean that in malice, but do you think Barton will leave City, with a great youth system and a good young manager that has turned his career around, to join you guys, who only last year wanted everybody from your board down to your kit boy sacked? I just ask as usually its us that get linked with every player in the world and some fans think we can get top players from top clubs.

beacause o'neil is a better manager than pearce, we have a great chairman and board now, and our youth system is prob only behind the top four in regards to the amount of kids we have bought through and we are on the up.

the 8 million bid for young proves that we are going in the right direction. under ellis that would of been a summers budget.

any one looking to go to spurs would be committing career suicide, its stupid, you just try and buy any one and then never play them.
routlidge , murphy , mido etc.

Happy Villan are you merry through drugs and/or alcohol. Lennon, Dawson, Defoe, King, Robinson, Jenas (and even Gardner) have all been called up to the England squad whist at Spurs. Maybe you should ask a certain Wilfred Bouma what constitutes career suicide - he may have a very different opinion from your own. Gareth Barry is a fine example of a quality player who suffers because he plays for Villa!

Great players really took england by the short and curlys and made into a great team, just like the superstar spurs..... Kings the only one of any real quality, give ya 3m plus hendrie. Your times up spurs fans and you know it, thats why your on our board feeling bitter and twisted. O neil and the second richest owner in the prem spells trouble for your lot of overpaid over hyped 'superstar players' In two seasons time you wont even beat our reserve team, Oh great game against the geordies, cant be that bad and to a team of such quality smilies/wink.gif

Plenty of Cockney arrogance on here today, I have some paint I can go and watch dry. Always a more entertaining, and intellectually challenging proposition than talking to yids.

I like him, he's a great player. not only does he have the Savage (without the C*nt factor) in him, he's got a great through ball, the best at the club at present... nothing fancy but he's a great player... he loses something from his game cos he's not fit and doesn't play consistantly... I'd be dissapointed if he left, and I don't know what Big P's talking about, never heard another Spurs fan say a bad word about him! He's a classier Michael Brown, and I think if you understand the game you understand his value!

how many of those players have you produced yourself ?

my point is that good players join you and there wasted, namely murphy, routledge and mido, even to an extent zakora and ghali or whatever his name is, you got these players for the sake of it and then they sit on the bench.

barry isn't missing out on england because of the villa, he is missing out because quite simply there are better players in his position at left back and he is not a left winger.

Spurs never achieve anything. For all the money and players they have they constantly win nothing and I can't see that changing.

Why would Young want to go there and end up being loaned out to Fulham in a years time when he's not playing? Spurs are just trying to do a Chelsea and buy up all the young talent so no-one else can have them. No wonder the England team's getting ruined.
