When the previous incumbent was appointed the manager of our club I immediately told anyone that would listen it was a mistake and he'll only take us backwards. When Martin O'Neill was appointed manager it was the complete opposite.
I read an article at expressandstar.com earlier when Martin O'Neill seemed to be defending himself, which I for one don't think he has to do.
For me Martin O'Neill is the complete package and in a few years we'll see that to be the case. Money is going to spent on new players, maybe this month maybe not, but certainly in the summer and then the manager will start to mould his team.
It won't be next season that we start to see the real O'Neill effect though. It's going to take three or four seasons, maybe even longer, before we start to see what we all hope for at Aston Villa.
It will be seen next season and I think we've seen a little already in how the team plays but if you could move the entire team forward five seasons I think you'd be very lucky to see two of the existing set of players in a true Martin O'Neill team.
The bottom line is you have to win some games, and nobody should be above criticism in this game and I?m certainly not. If Sir Alex Ferguson and all those boys get criticised, then just take it. But it?s a long season. People?s opinions and minds change constantly than in a three or four game period. So I?m not getting overly perturbed by it. Where you are at the end of the season, is where you?re judged and we still have over a third of the season to go. - Martin O'Neill
I took out he above from the article on expressandstar.com because I appreciate what the manager is saying and he's not going to come put and say he should have three seasons but he certainly won't be judged by me.
I just hope that everyone else gives the manager the time he needs and most importantly that Mr Lerner gives him the time and financial support needed to put together a Martin O'Neill team.

I just hope he stays for that long as he is on a year 2 year "gentleman's agreement" alex ferguson is bound to retire soon perhaps we may lose him as he leaves for united ??
Personally I think the rot started with Gregory. The bloke spent so much of Dougie’s money on misfits he tightened the purse strings. Step in Mr O’Dreary. Well known to blow a bob or to (look where Leeds are now). Although he didn’t spend a lot of dough he was tactically naïve and his man management was a joke, well basically he was a crap manager. Although we have a terrific youth policy, experience needs to be injected to create a balanced mix. The team MON inherited is very small and in-experienced. MON needs time (like you state above Damian) to mould the team. With time, he has a vision of what he knows, he and any of the teams he has managed, are capable of, if left to get on with.
So Villa supporters please stop all this Negativity about, we haven’t signed him or why aren’t we going for him. Please believe in MON and Mr Lerner. They are doing the best they can for this club. I trust them 100% to turn us into an immense force not just in the Prem but in Europe. Don’t you think that if Mr Lerner is throwing Millions of pounds at the Holte Hotel, new training facilities, that he wouldn't back MON in the Transfer market, whoever he may be going for!! Get behind our beloved Lion’s and together we can accomplish what we have dreamed about since we first set our eyes on the hollowed turf of B6.
We will do it!! (See you all Saturday-Hopefully)
Up the Villa!!
I like the way your so sure money will be spent, other teams dont seem to have a problem, see portsmouth bought a player today, west ham three.MAKE A OFFER THEY CANT REFUSE,you get nowhere worrying about the odd pound or two, anyway heres hoping we buy a goalscorer .
yea o'neils is a good manager, n yea most people want him to manage there team. but 11 games wivout a win is s**t, so u can take ur head from up his arse every now and again and criticise him. if the team is full of crap players then he shud b able to still do well, he did it at celtic and leicester so hopefully he can do it wiv us but at the moment he deserves 11 games worth of criticism. im writing this as de la cruz scores for reading...typical!!
