Joey Barton and all his baggage coming to Villa Park?

The Daily Mail this evening have come out with a corker; Aston Villa are about to make a bid for Joey Barton.

He's a decent enough player who runs and runs, is combative and likes to get stuck in but is he really what we need to get to the next level?

Maybe he is and maybe he isn't but it's just a rumour. Still, I don't think I'd mind that much getting a player like Joey Barton, I just think I might be a little worried about the baggage that comes with this particular Joey Barton.

Other clubs rumoured to be willing to pay the £5.5mn. are Newcastle and Middlesbrough. Atleast we've not got any real competition if this were all true.

in all honesty n their day city are alot better than villa, midlesborough and newcastle so if mr joey barton did move to one of these clubs, surely it would be a sideways move, by all means there is no disrespect there tto the three clubs in mention but surely hed be better going to the likes of tottenham or arsenal or somethibng along those lines...
also why owuld city want to sell him as he is the only player except hatem trabelsi who is actually doing sometyhing this season. selling him owuld surely damn us to relagtion, we are not a one man team but he is probably our best player

....your comment contradicts itself! Quote - "in all honesty in their day city are a lot better than villa, midlesborough and newcastle so if mr joey barton did move to one of these clubs, surely it would be a sideways move."

Also quoting from Danny Boy - "selling him would surely damn us to relagtion".

I don't know about anyone else, but I think if Villa sold Gareth Barry we'd still do ok under MON. Certainly wouldn't be facing the drop!

City better than villa???mate the only thing big about man citeh is........man utd!!!!if it wasn't for your derby matches you'd never warrant even a mention. Citeh have never been a big club, the publicity they've achieved, if any, is through hanging on to Utd's coat tails!

BAGGAGE IS ONE THING, BUT THIS GUY DOESNT STOP RUNNING AND RUNNING AND RUNNING AND RUNNING.

I WOULD HAVE HIM, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW THAT TO PLAY AGAINST I BET HE IS A KNIGHTMARE !

Would be a great signing, he has an all round game!

He has calmed down recently too so the baggage is minimal!

He'd be a brilliant signing for Villa, but he'd have to give up cigars.

Barton is a great player and would add a lot to villa, like plenty of goals from midfield. dont know if he would be interested though! we shall see.

It's funny that Barton has been mentioned because I was only thinking about him coming to Villa the other day. I'm not saying that he is as good as Roy Keane at the moment, but I do think he is heading in that direction! Let's not forget, Roy Keane had a fair bit of baggage, yet not too many Man Utd fans complained about it! MON is the man to help him to deal with life's issue's. He is definately the type of player we are lacking at the moment. I feel that he would be a great signing, just not sure Pearce would let him go!
