We've had this rumour for about two seasons now but I read it somewhere again today so it's going up again, this time with my views on the player.
Phil Jagielka is a good player, but that's about it I'm afraid and he's certainly not worth the £5mn. that the rumour also comes with.
He's a midfielder who can also play in defence or is he a defender that can play in midfield? Anyway, a good utility man he may be and the last good one I remember is Phil Neville and look what has happened to him since getting regular football in a regular position.
I'm not knocking the player but if Aston Villa are to move forward then better players than Phil Jagielka are needed to make that happen.

Damian i couldnt agree with you more.We should be looking at a higher quality player than Jagielka. I dont think January is a good time to buy so ill give judgement in the summer when we have Randy Lerner's cash to spend, then we will know how real it is for Villa to be buying top players and if we really have the money in the first place!!
He'd be worth buying, but at a much lower price.
He's not that bad, only 24 and a seasoned player who has time on his side to get even better, and we have the manager to get the best out of him.
Might be worth the risk, but at about £3million, no more, there again it's not my money.
