Lyon are keen on taking Milan Baros out on loan in January while Martin Jol has, according to the Daily Express, told Jermain Defoe that he'd rather start with Robbie Keane up front, which could mean an approach from Martin O'Neill in January.
The Baros story is coming from The Sun and I think it's a good idea to let Baros go if the story is true. He needs to play more games and if Mr O'Neill manages to get a striker in January then when will Baros feature?
It comes down to Baros taking his chances. I know players need games but strikers don't get as many chances, especially when you've got Luke Moore coming back soon and hopefully Chris Sutton for Monday.
It's all pinch of salt time anyway. The Daily Express and The Sun can hardly be considered sources of reliable information.

keep dreaming
With both Keane and Mido out injured for at least a month i would think the chances of Defoe making a move in January is nil.
in your dreams defoe is coming. think kenny miller or someone like that is more of your mark.
So,lets see......Defoe is going to give up a team that is in the latter stages of the carling cup, marching through europe and only 3 points off 3rd place(despite a poor start to the season)to go and play for what clearly is a mid table premiership side, who just happened to have a good start?
DREAM ON
Jol has STATED(not just stupid alleged remarks like your 'revelations')that Defoe is going nowhere.
Try Nugent or someone a bit closer to your level.
they think they're this club on the verge of winning europe or breaking into the top four .. yo're not bigger than villa!
right now our two clubs are on a level playing field. we just have to wait and see what our new manager does but as it stands i'm fairly confident that we'll be above you at the end of the season and it's only this season that matters. or shall we look in the past?
Martin Jol's comments were designed to motivate Defoe over what will be a very busy couple of months for us. With Keane injured Defoe will be required to play a lot of games. Defoe to Villa in January? Hilarious. One: All the talk of this previously has just been media nonsense and Villa dreaming. Two: Keane's injury means Defoe is needed at WHL more than ever right now. Three: You couldn't afford him, even with your new benefactor.
I accept some of your comment on Villa and Spurs being on a level playing field . I have always considered Spurs , Everton , Villa the 3 who can chase the now big 4 - each with a great history and all having won more major trophies than Chelsea . However Villa have not won a FA Cup since 1957 , and their last trophy was in the 1990's . Last trophy Spurs have won is 1999 but even with O'neill at the Villa I think we are a few strides ahead of Villa unless you buy big in the transfer window . I can not see the current Villa squad regularly in top 6 of the Premiership even if they make it top 6 this year .
We've had a good start yeah, but that's with a team that's supposedly weak, what sort of start have Spurs made with their supposedly strong and expensive team?
It's obvious Defoe would jump at the chance to come to Villa, instead of being neglected and stuck on the bench on a regular basis, he'd thrive at Villa with the decent manager we have.
Villa are a club in the ascendancy, his future would be assured there, how much do they want for him? £8m? a snip, we should snap their hands off.
Considering Tottenham completly dismissed a 12million pund bid from pompey in the summer, how exactly are Villa going to manage to pull it off for 8?
At that price EVERY prem team will be in for him.
Spurs and Villa are NOT on the same level. That is something Villa fans say more in hope, than realisation.
Villa are doing superb in europe this year are'nt they?Won every game have'nt they?
Also good to see Villa flying in the carling cup too, thats a trophy they could actually win,oh wait a minute......
Player for player, the squads of Spurs and Villa are incomparable.
Spurs have been on the ascendency for the past TWO years....Villa for the last 3-4 months.
Hardly the same thing.
Villa's GREAT start has put them only 2 points infront of a perceived bad start from Spurs(considering Spurs have gone to the Reebok,Old Trafford,Anfield and the Emirates,as well as play Chelsea,I don't think it's actually that bad a start for spurs)
Villa will do well to be top 8 come the end of the season.
Villa fans should realies this would be significant progression.
I thought all Villa fans talk of europe/top 4 etc...ended when Man City destroyed them at HOME!!!
hold on a second. spurs won the mickey mouse cup in 1999. what have you achieved since? i see. you won the peace cup in 2005! the thing is with spurs, it doesn't matter how close you come you're still not there - villa and spurs are in similiar postition. like it nor not there is very little bewtween us
as for your excellent squad why are you behind us if they are so good and we've been to anfield, chelsea and everton this season and only lost twice to your 6 losses!
in football its not alwasy about your history but about your future. spurs have had their future for the past couple of seasona nd still not achieved anything!!
you all seem to forget that on the last day of the summer transfer window defoe was at villa sorting out a contract tottenham had accepted our bid but defoe wanted a very big salary an mon wouldn't giv it him so i think he does want to leave an he will be coming to villa!!!!!!!
I think Baros should be sold and 5 million brought in, ive said this on many previous occasions. I would go for Defoe and Darren Bent, both should cost 18 million, net spend 13 million, i think we can afford that!
Defoe is hardly a world beater, bellamy far better, so is bent or even zamora, £12 million! LOL
"and their last trophy was in the 1990's . Last trophy Spurs have won is 1999" hello! do you write for the sun? ;) you have to laugh,
Jols been there now for how long? and still no real form, the only think thats consistent is your inconsistency,
"Spurs have been on the ascendency for the past TWO years....Villa for the last 3-4 months. Hardly the same thing." your right,
you have spent a kings ransom and still you are not really any good...Next five, villa will be far more consistent thats unless we do an O'Neil plus £12 million deal for one of your superstar strikers..... Defoe! :)
defoe is good but why not get someone good like dave nugent or freddy eastwood, tru british talent as MON says lets scour the lower divisions!
The only way we'd sell Defoe is if we got in somone better. How much would you pay for Robbie Keane though?
Yes it's true, after personally speaking with Mr. O'Neil, he has informed me of Villas £12 offer for the Liverpool striker.
I read on the people newspaper site that martin o neil and martin jol have talked with each other face to face and that they made a deal but wot sort of deal???? is it player for player or a higher bid i dunno but we gonna have to find out now the january transfer window is open
