Aston Villa miss Petrov and McCann but still make a point

The two players that have stood out for me all season were missing today. Petrov because of an injury and Smiler because he was banned. If both had played I think we would have picked up two more points today.

As it was, Thomas Sorensen saved the day with a couple of top class saves and Aston Villa leave Wigan with a nil nil draw. If you're a Wigan fan reading this you'll probably feel hard done by, as an Aston Villa fan you'll be thinking we did a job that had to be done.

Overall, a point away to Wigan was a good result. Mark Lawrenson got it wrong, as he so often does and although we struggled last week against Everton, today we battled well in the first half and looked more like the Aston Villa that Martin O'Neill is building, in the second.

Next up is Middlesbrough at home. I wonder what type of reception Gareth Southgate is going to get?

Don't forget, we're spending ten minutes with Paul McGrath next week, get your questions into us here.

Didn't see any news on Petrov - how long is he likely to be out for?

Stan has tweaked his hamstring and should be back for boro, he did train on saturday but felt 'tentative' apparently.

I thought we were very well organised against wigan and everyone done there jobs very well.

a proper team performance.
