Martin O'Neill in for Robbie Keane
Written by Damian

It's Sunday and it's News of the World day for me. Today the paper is claiming that Robbie Keane is a ?5mn. target for Martin O'Neill in January.

I think taking off both strikers at half time yesterday was as clear a signal as any that Martin O'Neill would prefer a more traditional striker and Robbie Keane, although getting on still has the ability and would be considered a more traditional front man.

Still, it's only a rumour. One I'd like to see happen but a rumour none the less.

To be fair, I don't think O'Neill took off both strikers yesterday because he doesn't like the way they play, he took them off because they were ineffective....

I like the way he's come out and challenged Baros to hit the goal trail again, since the end of last season (probably due to DO'L) he's looked off the boil. I'm confident O'Neill will get him playing to his full potential again, but I think he's better playing in Luke Moore's position rather than an out and out striker....

lets be realistic here, keane came 4th top goal scorer last year, (even though he didnt really switch into gear until the second half of the season) and has signed a four year contract with spurs, the fans love him, he loves the club and hes perfectly happy there. also by the sounds of it, oneil is looking for a more goalscorer type player, now all though robbie keane scores goals, hes much better at creating his own chancesand scoring really skillful goals, than just getting on the end of a chance created by another player, if keane is guna be sold to villa, keane is probably guna have to fallout with the manager for something like that to happen, your also talking about alot of money, considering the fact that spurs sold carrick (who isnt as good as keane, he really wanted to leave and he only had 2 years left on his contract) for 18.6 million. thats alot of money spurs are guna be asking for.

Robbie is hardly getting on? he is only 27.
also i think with the introduction of Mido and Berbatov, and Malbranque being able to fill a Keane like role, that keane will find himself being used less and less this season, and could possibly be moved on in january. so it may not be that far off the mark

Ape of Death;
I cannot tell you how pleased I am by your comments. Refreshing it is to hear a Villa fan being objective and honest about (yet) another transfer roumour surrounding a spurs player. My opinion of your site and your fans has increased significantly. Good luck you Villans under O'Neill and Randy Lerner - maybe withour that Doug Ellis monkey on your back you will be able to grow back into the big Midlands club you once were.

1.robbie keane is not as good as carrick, did u see them balls he put through to rooney yesterday causing half of there 4 goals,
even though we shouldnt have sold him istill admire him as a playr worth at least 18.6 million

2.keaane is getting on a bit 27 is young but he lost his talent quickly and it is going quicker by the day
he only kept if for 5 years,in whih the same will happen to crouch anda few others

3. keane should be sold around 7-9.5 million

4.and also we have berbatov, defoe, mido and malbranque, and if we sold keane we could use some of the profit for some of the 12million fee for beckham ,or even for someone on the left wing

but i still would not like to see him go still after about the 150goals he scored for us

We should have bought he years ago when he was good value, but lost out to coventry over a poxy half a million. Now however i believe we should have bigger asperations than keane. If we really want to cement ourselves as a top six side we have to spend 10m+ on a world class striker the right age of 25.
Having said that i still think Beckham would be a great addition even at 31.

becks would not go to aston 1 season there good the next they are crap it would be a disgrace even for becks, he wants to play for a team who have been in top 10 almost every season , but not the giants he would not get first team football
for example teams like these he would suit :spurs, boro, everton, blackburn, newcastle,

most likely spurs because he grew up in north east london, and supports spurs,
and there are many friends of his at white hart lane

possibly west ham, because they are struggling and he would enjoy playing alongsied sheringham

comment on both of my thoughts

Spurs are wone of the richest clubs in european football. They don't need to sell players.Especially for pathetic amounts such as 5 million for a proven, international player.
If Spurs were to get rid of Keane, whoever wanted him would have to expect little(if any)change out of 12 million. He is vice captain.Loves the club.Fans favourite.Just signed 4 year deal.....
He might not be a certain starter at white hart lane, but surely he realises that something special is starting to take place at Spurs, and it won't be long until they can mount serious challenges to the 'big 4'.In fact,I expect them to win silverware thisa season.
Why would Keane leave a club on the verge of success to play for a club years away from challenging for ANYTHING????
Wishful thinking from Villa fans me thinks.
