Owen to commit to Newcastle

In the Daily Star today Michael Owen has hinted that he might be ready to sign a contract that keeps him at Newcastle until the end of his career.

I love this tripe, I really do. Of course he's going to commit to another six years at Newcastle. He's only 26 years old and probably picking up ?100,000.00 a week; if you're injured for most of the season wouldn't you be quick to snap up another ?30,000,000.00 over the next few years.

I mean, who else is going to pay him that amount of money with the risk associated with bringing Owen in?

Don't get me wrong, Owen has an excellent record. He's played 263 first team matches and scored 138 goals. It's an excellent return. His return for Newcastle is also excellent; 11 games and 7 goals. But with the ?5,000,000.00 he's made over the past season is each of those goals worth ?715,000.00?

I'm sure Owen would sign for life if given the chance but would Newcastle be foolish enough to take the risk?
