It is time something was done about the referees

Graham Poll isn't a useless referee but he's not an excellent referee; he's just an okay referee. When decisions could have gone against Chelsea yesterday they didn't and when they could go against Villa they did; it's not fair and something has to change.

It's not just Graham Poll. The linesman at the Bolton game yesterday gifted them a goal by claiming Liverpool keeper Reina handled outside the box; he didn't and I was amazed that the linesman raised his flag, especially as he was 10 years ahead of the play so he couldn't have seen it.

Many people have called for a 4th referee watching TV replays and I've been against it as I've thought referees should be able to manage the game themselves but when linesmen and referees are making so many wrong decisions something had to happen and if a 4th referee helps make the game fair I'm all for it.

Every week we see lots of examples of referees making bad decisions or not making decisions and it's a joke. Another problem is that referees are governed by, you've guessed it, retired referees. It's a case of looking after your own.

There needs to be in place an independent body to run the referees and make sure that we've got the best in the Premiership and if they are not up to the job they are quickly relegated to lower divisions until they can prove themselves.

How can a referee or linesman give for handball if the ball never actually hit the players hand. It's not going to change but it has to, like so many things in football.
