Two goals from Juan Pablo Angel was enough to see off Scunthorpe despite a late fight back and a lot of support from Scunny Bunny and Scunny Hunny Bunny.
Angel hit his penalty in the 41st minute against the keeper but was fortunate that the ball rolled out to him and he calmly slotted it away. His second was a great header from about eight yards after a great cross from either Hughes or Davis.
Smiler McCann went off in the first half and was replaced by Whittingham after picking up a knock. Whitts looked assured and confident. Agbonlahor should have scored but kept missing; something I'm sure they'll work on in training.
Overall a good result. Scunthorpe battled and will feel unlucky but Villa always looked like they had another gear they could have moved into if necessary.
Mr Lerner was at the stadium and I'm sure on Saturday he'll get a great reception. Up the Villa.
