Harry Redknapp has admitted a bid for Villa midfielder was rejected. "Gareth Barry is a talented player and we placed a bid with Aston Villa. They turned it down because he is someone they want to keep," Redknapp told Portsmouth daily The News.
He went on, "I don't know if the situation will be different now David O'Leary has been sacked."
We are fairly confident that Barry will wait to see who the next manager is before making a decision on his future along with other members of the squad maybe except for Milan Baros.
The ambition shown by the board now in appointing the right man could be crucial to many current Villa players and it has to be the right one.
The interesting part of the quote was how Redknapp referred to O'Leary getting the sack. There is a lot of talk of 'mutual consent' but let's not forget the fact that he was a useless manager probably to blame for the so called 'player revolt' and needed to go. He was sacked, it's just how it's worded these days.
