Villa begin negotiations with Levante for Mellberg

In another bout of bad news for Aston Villa, Levante's technical secretary Manolo Salvador has revealed that Levante have begun negotiations with Aston Villa over the sale of Olof Mellberg.

Salvador is quoted on Sky Sports as saying "He is an interesting footballer and we have begun to negotiate - we will try to lower their price."

It is rumoured we will take ?2m, which is a ridiculous price for a player we paid over ?5m for.

I can't believe we'd sell someone like Mellberg when we're trying to build, but maybe O'Leary has spotted the next injury-prone Gavin McCann.

God help Aston Villa...
