This rumour started in January when Martin O'Neill went fishing in Watford and caught Ashley Young. It appears to have resurfaced.
Now, I'm not sure he is a striker, on an email I've read he's an attacking midfielder and while I'm not going to split hairs on exactly what position he plays in, he does look good at YouTube.

According the the Guardian we're after spurs winger Wayne Routledge and you know what I wouldn't mind this one little bit.
He plays as a right winger and like most of the players Martin O'Neill is going after or who he's taken in, played for England at U21 level.

Why the papers think we need another striker I don't know but according to the Daily Star we've made an offer for Jermain Defoe and Curtis Davies.
In other speculation and according to The Sun, we've also made an offer to Fulham for central defender Zat Knight because we refused to pay £10mn. to West Brom.

Martin O'Neill has until midnight on Friday to bring in new players and the two been talked about in the papers this morning are Per Mertesacker of Werder Bremen and Glen Johnson from Chelsea.
I've seen Glen Johnson play quite a bit of football so can confidently say he'd be a squad player if he came. Having no recollection of watching Per Mertesacker, I've no idea what to say. |

The rumour got woken up by international man of mystery, Bill Howell of the Birmingham Mail and it's been picked up by the Daily Mail, but is there any truth in it?
I'm not so sure but one thing is for sure and that's Defoe isn't getting any football at Spurs and I suspect he's the type of player who likes to play.

If you believe what you hear on the radio you'll believe that Aston Villa have agreed a fee of £8mn. with West Brom for Curtis Davies.
If it's true, it happens on the same day that Read Madrid agree to sign Gabriel Heinze for £8mn. also. Which one would you rather have for £8mn?

Aston Villa were on the verge of signing Benfica right back Nelson for a little over £2.7mn. until the club took a little too long. Now Sevilla have shown an interest and the price has gone up.
Sevilla have shown an interest because the club are convinced they are going to lose current right back Daniel Alves.

There is no doubt Curtis Davies is a decent enough defender and I suppose when a Championship club get rumoured interest in a player the price is always going to be more expensive; especially when it's two Premier League clubs that show that interest.
Curtis Davies has however been priced out of a move by his Chairman Jeremy Peace.

This is still speculation only because the club haven't denied it but from what we understand Martin O'Neill is going to meet the valuation for Porto right back Jose Bosingwa.
It is thought that Martin O'Neill was wanting to pay around £3mn. but will now have to up that to at least £6mn. if he wants to get his man.

It's all over the net and even in some papers so it must be true; Aston Villa have pipped Manchester City to land Liverpool keeper Scott Carson.
After losing out to Sunderland for Hearts keeper Craig Gordon because we were haggling over the price we are desperate for a keeper, because frankly, Thomas Sorensen isn't up to the task. |
