Spurs enter race for Craig Gordon

The interest Martin O'Neill has shown in Hearts keeper Craig Gordon is thought to have alerted Spurs to his potential availability.

It's surprising to think that Jol is looking for a new keeper and if I'm honest I'd be quite happy take Paul Robinson if he were to be replaced but if in this 'honest' place, I don't actually think many players would pick Spurs over Aston Villa at the moment.

Smiler off to Sunderland to join the Keane revolution?

I read something on the Birmingham Mail website today about a number of top-flight clubs vying for McCann's signature for next season.

Now, it's not that I don't think he's a decent enough player as most who play in the Premiership are decent enough, it's just that I don't think he's going to take us forward and judging by what most now think, my views have either grown on others or it's just taken other longer to figure it all out.

Is Martin O'Neill about to raid Kilmarnock and Hearts?
Written by Damian
Monday, 21 May 2007

Martin O'Neill wasn't just visiting old friends while up in Scotland at the weekend. He was watching Kilmarnock beat Hearts and according to the rumours, he was watching Steven Naismith and Craig Gordon.

Now, I don't remember ever seeing Naismith play so can't really comment but from what I've been able to gather he's still only 20 years old and this season he won the Young Player of the Year award in Scotland.

Davis off to Fulham while it's Defoe, Nugent or Bellamy coming in
Written by Damian
Sunday, 20 May 2007

Footballing gospel, the News of the World have Steven Davis heading to London to hook up with Lawrie Sanchez at Fulham while Sanchez convinces Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed to part with £3,000,000.

It's not always rubbish from the News of the World and they might be spot on with this as Sanchez likes Davis and he's going to want players around him he knows something about. The thing is with Davis, he wants first team football and he may very well be stupid enough to sacrifice a 'bright future' for the cash and first team football of West London.

Another tribalfootball one: Sheff Utd's Montgomery
Written by Luke
Friday, 18 May 2007

I'm beginning to get a little tired and somewhat aggravated by people like tribalfootball. One of their latest articles claims we're going in for Sheffield United's Nicky Montgomery at a discount £1.4m.

He plays central midfield for a relegated team, we have a huge transfer budget and want to be challenging for Europe.

Paul Konchesky anyone?

Tribal football reckon Villa are after Paul Konchesky.

Their article has two one-sentence paragraphs so not convinced on the authenticity of this rumour. I'm also not sure about Konchesky as a full-back, particularly with the money we've got to spend we can buy someone of much better quality.

Samuel and Ridgewell off to Birmingham City?
Written by Damian
Wednesday, 16 May 2007

This is one of those rumours that just won't go away and it smells. It smells because Liam Ridgewell is a future captain of England and if he was to move on it would be a tragedy.

JLloyd Samuel has been leaving Villa for some time and doesn't seem to want to fight for his place. He'll be happy getting a salary increase for moving on a free and when a player leaves like that I tend to forget any good they did for the club.

Sylvain Distin anyone?
Written by Damian
Saturday, 12 May 2007

According to the Daily Star, Martin O'Neill is about to offer Sylvain Distin a deal to come and play his football at Villa Park next season.

Distin is available for nothing as his contract with Manchester City expires at the end of this season and based on the few games I've seen him play I'd be happy for him to come.

Is Martin O'Neill showing an interest in Franck Rib?ry?
Written by Kevin
Tuesday, 08 May 2007

Franck Rib?ry, currently at Olympique Marseille, is thought to be on the Martin O'Neill wanted list for next season.

The 24 year old French international is an attacking midfielder who can play in the middle or on either wing. He's played 16 times for France and was recently touted as the next Zidane.

Nothing to do with Aston Villa: Chelsea, United and Portsmouth

Saturday, 05 May 2007

I could make one or two up and it wouldn't really matter as they are only rumours but I've searched and searched and I couldn't find one, so instead of having nothing to post after all that searching, I'm looking at the next top three rumours.

The first one that made me smile was that Titus Bramble is close to joining Portsmouth on a free transfer. I've spoken to a mate in Portsmouth and he's not happy as he'd like a fee for having to take Titus Bramble.
