Rumours
Thursday afternoon: Marco Caneira and Yoann Pele
Written by Luke

The internet is a wonderful thing, mainly for the amount of information - true and not so true - it can spread throughout the world in an instant.

This afternoon it has told the world that Villa are keen on Valencia's Marco Caneira and that the unnamed club that has bid for Le Mans' Yoann Pele may well be us too.

Rumour from Bill: Sebastian Eguren

It's Bill Howell, so you've got to question it, but according to Bill, Martin O'Neill is interested in Sebastian Eguren.

Never heard of him? Probably made up player from a computer game that Bill was playing last night. If I'm wrong, which I am, he's probably a name Bill picked up from someone in the pub.

Rumour of the day: Not Sidwell or Schneider but Diego Ribas da Cunha

Thursday, 15 May 2008

Right, we know it's silly season but the good folks over at the The Guardian are really starting to get me excited.

Not because of Steve Sidwell, which doesn't seem to want to go away, but Diego, the Brazilian attacking midfielder that Martin O'Neill is apparently interested in.

Please Sir, can I have a David Bentley?

I absolutely love the transfer window; not just because of the optimism we create and develop for next season, but because we actually get to talk about players, football and have some glimmer of hope that we'll get what we really want.

The nice big rumour of the day is David Bentley from Blackburn and you know what, I think he's within reach and would be an absolutely perfect addition to the team.

Maybe not the most prolific of midfielders, but Perdo Mendes does have something special

I'm not sure if the newspapers just search the web for previous links to players and just print them again, because we were first linked to the Pompey midfielder last year.

Now, I like Mendes and from the few times I've seen him I can't help but think there is something special about his game. He also sort of fits in with the Martin O'Neill plan and he's not playing week in week out at Pompey at the moment.

Mattock and Stearman on the Martin O'Neill radar

The start of the season is always the most exciting time of the year for me, but today is also going to be quite interesting, if only because so much is still undecided.

Also, let's not forget that at midnight, the transfer window opens!

Rumour of the day: Jens Lehmann

Friday, 09 May 2008

It's a rumour from the Express and Star, but it's actually one I wouldn't mind, when you put it into context.

The rumour is, Martin O'Neill is interested but that the real target is very much American Brad Guzan, with Lehmann as the quality, experienced Premier League head.

Rumour of the day: Stephen Carr from Newcastle

Right, with the transfer window opening up in a few days, I've decided to start a rumour of the day post where for one reason or another someone who is linked will get a mention.

I'll probably list all the other rumours from the day too, but for today only, I'm starting with just the one.

Try putting this name on the back of your shirt: Schweinsteiger

Thursday, 01 May 2008

It's only a rumour, but with the transfer window opening in eleven short days, they're going to start gathering pace and the player that Martin O'Neill is apparently interested in now is Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Now, the lad is only 23 years old but he's played 49 times for Germany and he's scored 13 goals. Not a bad return for a youngster and if he's half as good as I've just been told then he'd surely be a welcomed addition.

Carlo Cudicini wants Aston Villa and Gerrard wants Barry, forever and ever

Thursday, 17 April 2008

First off, it's The Sun, but we do have quotes. Apparently there is 'interest from Aston Villa as well as Manchester City' but Carlo Cudicini would prefer to join Villa.

He may be getting on a bit, he'll be 35 in September, but he's still got something and there are not many keepers that would keep him out of the starting line up - unfortunately Chelsea's first choice is one of those few.
