Match Prediction: Bolton and Sammy Lee

I have a feeling deep down and a much higher than normal belief that we win this one. If you've read a match prediction of mine this season you'll see I always predict Villa to win but this time I really do believe it.

It's not just because we've won the last three away for this first time in a long time or that we're in the type of run that if we had kept up in the middle part of the season would see us playing in Europe for sure next season.

Match Prediction: Sheffield United on a special day

There really can be only one result this weekend; a victory with lots of goals, with a packed Villa Park and a roaring Holte End. Or at least that would be the perfect end to a historic season and a special day.

It's a special day because the club are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the European Cup win. Everything starts today and ends on Monday but all eyes will be on tomorrow.

Match Prediction: Manchester City away

Since Darius Vassell left Villa for City he's scored five goals in five games. Those five goals represent a third of his total goals scored for Manchester City; it goes to show that it was a good decision to let him leave but also that he can be a threat.

While Vassell does represent a threat for me the main threat to victory for Aston Villa this weekend is Aston Villa. They've got to stay focused for 90 minutes and create chances. If the midfield can create chances this weekend I'm convinced we'll see some goals.

Match Prediction: Portsmouth

If results go our way we could be back up to tenth by Sunday evening and if results go the way they have recently, I expect that to be the case.

Portsmouth beat United and then a few days later got beaten at Watford. They've had a good season and will be hoping to finish strongly to secure European football for next season but Villa are finishing strong and I think ultimately we'll be wanting it more.

Match Prediction: Middlesbrough away

Friday, 13 April 2007

Last year when we went to Middlesbrough it was a perfect result for Villa and Luke Moore got three and how I'd love a repeat of the result tomorrow.

We should have also won the game earlier this season when we shared the points at Villa Park. I don't think they'll be any sharing tomorrow; or at least I hope not.

Five, four, three, two, one. We'll hear it at five to three tomorrow afternoon. And this time I've a mantra to accompany it.

So short orders from the Doc this game.

Match Prediction: Wigan at Villa Park

I've just watched the Blackburn game on TV for the second time and if we could play like that at home on Monday night I'd fancy another three points. I had to watch it again as I didn't believe it the first time round.

On paper Wigan should be three points but they're fighting for survival at the moment and they know if they lose to us on Monday night it's a step closer to the bottom three if Charlton win at home to Reading and Sheffield United win when they play.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man...

Whichever way you look at it, Gavin McCann's two match suspension over Easter is a blessing in disguise. McCann started the season well, and even won some praise early on for improved distribution and mobility. But for weeks now we've been watching the same old Smiler - and I see it as no coincidence that this has come to mean the same old Villa.

Doctor's Orders: Villa vs Everton

Just four points clear of Charlton Athletic, you might think this is no time for Villa to be going head-to-head with a Toffees side bang in form, brimful of confidence and looking good value for a UEFA Cup place.

Indeed, you might even understand if Villa played this game with more than a degree of caution.

Everton at Villa Park match preview

Everton are coming to Villa Park full of confidence and the travelling support will be brimming with expectation. This will not be an easy or pretty game.

The manager wants to play attractive football but judging by his comments today that there might be casualties he possibly knows why we are not.
