Going down? West Ham are one point behind us with a game in hand so this might not be as easy as most thought before the season started. They have beaten Blackburn, drawn with Newcastle and lost to Bolton but I'm going to confidently predict that they will stay behind us after this match but it will be a four point difference. I mean no disrespect to West Ham but I can't see them beating us. I see them getting a goal early on because they are at home but then I see Villa's new look team stepping up a gear and getting more. |

Rovers: In for a thrashing? Well well. Three games in and two points. Who would have expected it?I for one thought we'd have 6 points by now but the football is looking better and with the arrival of Milan Baros our attacking options have got a lot lot better. Baros likes to drop back a bit, pick up the ball and run at defenders. He can also play a good ball and isn't frightened to shoot. |

J'Lloyd and Berger are out but Philips and Solano return.
J'Lloyd Samuel will face a scan on his knee later to discover the full extent of the injury he picked up at Old Trafford at the weekend. However, he will definitely miss tomorrow's trip to the south coast.

Portsmouth Portsmouth have played two games, conceded four goals and picked up zero points this season so it will probably be Villa that gift them something.I see this game finishing all square as it's never been a fun place for Villa to visit but deep down I want the victory so badly. Villa need the win and on paper should but I also thought we'd beat Bolton which didn't happen. |

Who's your daddy! We're not going to mention the poor prediction from last week as I was so very very wrong. Rest assured when I eventually get it right we'll be mentioning it all week and this weekend provides me with a fixture I very rarely get wrong. The aggregate score last season was 4-1 to Manchester United and for this weekend I wouldn't be surprised if they beat that but it all depends on David O'Leary. |

Last season it finished 1-1 at Villa Park but this year I'm predicting a win for Aston Villa. If I were a betting man I'd go for a 2-0 win and if I was a serious betting man I'd say 2 goals for Phillips and put a tenner on it, but I'm not, but I still might! I've gone for the win for no other reason than it's the first game of the new season and it's at home. I think every player knows how important the game is and if Phillips and Berger play they'll want to make a very quick impression and despite their age I still think they've both got the ability to win a match for us. |
