Match Reports
Desperate times call for desperate measures

When Juan Pablo Angel scored the equaliser yesterday David O'Leary turned to face the directors box and gave his salute and punch in the air to Doug Ellis. The man is getting desperate and it's starting to leak through his usual slime free exterior.

It's not that Bolton are not a good team it's the general acceptance that this is a good result which makes my blood boil. Aston Villa are better than this.

A draw, fourth one this season which matches the number of wins we've had. Defeats are still at eight and will climb next week.

We move up a place but West Brom are now only one point behind us and Everton can push us back tomorrow if they get a victory.

A match report will follow tomorrow. I'm going to have a beer and get drunk.

A draw against Newcastle and more average football

Aston Villa will feel as if they could have left Newcastle with all three points but only leave with one. Gareth Barry missed a penalty with only a couple of minutes to go but ask a Newcastle fan and they will think they should have had the game wrapped up by then.

Both teams ran and ran but created little. We know they run and run because David O'Leary tells us every week that he can't fault his players for effort but surely we've got a right to complain about the standard of football - as much as Eric Djemba Djemba has?

A match report will follow very soon but I need to gather my thoughts first. To say we were out played would be an understatement - we played a team that wanted it more and actually showed us tonight how to play football.

There was nothing lucky about the Doncaster win tonight! In the meantime go sign the petition to get rid of O'Leary.

Break out the champagne Aston Villa have won two games on the bounce for the first time in a year.

For most this will no doubt mean David O'Leary should be given the keys to the City but for others it will mean we got lucky against the team at the bottom of the table and a team who just can't seem to get a point at the moment.

However, all that matters is the result. Match report to follow.

Luke is at the match today so we're going to leave the match report to him but get ready for an open top parade around Birmingham tomorrow. Aston Villa have won by two clear goals!

Okay, it was against Sunderland who are bottom of the table and they had conceded an average of two goals every game this season but it's a win!

I suspect David O'Leary is going to use the result as a vehicle to talk about how he wants to be judged in the new year and how he's nearly got everyone back fit and how honest the lads were.

Aston Villa lost again. Aston Villa didn't create enough shooting chances. Aston Villa lacked any direction. Aston Villa will be relegated under the current manager.

All of the above are facts.

Villa's Reserves continued their good start to the season at Haig Avenue, Stockport, by beating a young Everton side.

Stand-in striker Sam Williams' second half double was enough to give Villa all the points.

Will David O'Leary please stand up and leave. I don't blame the players although they have to take some of the flack for this season but David O'Leary has to take the blame.

Kevin MacDonald is available and ready to take over. The players respect him and he's got a background of winning things. I'm only suggesting it as a temporary measure but something has to be done soon - we have a crisis brewing at Aston Villa.

No match report, just the result. A Kevin Phillips goal in the 22nd minute was all that separated these teams as Aston Villa put good the defeat from last year's competition.

No prizes for guessing the game lacked passion and any real direction from David O'Leary's team or that James Milner was the man they over relied on and was man of the match in my opinion.
