Aston Villa were very unlucky not to leave London with three points tonight. Two goal line clearances and two efforts off the woodwork is all that saved West Ham from an embarrassing home defeat.
Smiler McCann had another good game and I must repeat my apology to him, it's clearly the manager who is getting the best out of the player. Gareth Barry, playing at left back, had another decent game and when he got forward provided some decent crosses; he won't want to stay in that position for too long and I don't think he should; maybe it's time I offered him an apology also.

Whenever Titus Bramble got the ball he kicked it out and whenever Newcastle looked like they had an opportunity they fluffed it. The second half was not a lot like the first half but still, Aston Villa won and won convincingly.
Newcastle spend a lot of money on players because they have to. They're one of those teams that you know, deep down, are not going to ever succeed despite all the money they throw at the team.

Aston Villa won 2-1 with goals from Angel and Barry. Barry won man of the match at Villa Park but for me I'd pick Peter Whittingham, who came on in the second half for Samuel, but I only listened on the radio and I do like Whitts.
Three points is all that counts at the end of the day and Martin O'Neill got his first three at Villa Park in his first attempt; what more could we have asked for?

Smiler McCann was the first player to kick a ball at the new home of Arsenal and Olof Mellberg was the first to score. Arsenal should also consider themselves lucky to get a point; only because goals scored is what matters.
Villa played a good game. They knew what they had to do before the match and they did it during the match. I'm not sure who I should nominate as man of the match so I'm going to recommend Liam Ridgewell, Olof Mellberg and Smiler.

In the first game after David O'Leary got the sack (and for anyone that thinks otherwise, it was the sack) Aston Villa won 5-0. Does anyone remember the result from last year?
Goals from Moore (2), Agbonlahor (2) and Whittngham were enough to brush aside The Saddlers and probably enough for everyone else. If you want the official line click here. |

It doesn't matter that we lost today as we all knew it would happen and Birmingham City are relegated. The game was actually quite embarrassing to watch though and some of it actually made me cringe.
O'Leary got out of his seat twice, once at half time and once at the end of the game. He did nothing and he's done nothing for 3 seasons. Time he left.

Darius Vassell loves Aston Villa, I know this as a fact and him scoring against us every time we play against his team just goes to further demonstrate what a muppet O'Leary is.
Don't get me wrong, I think Vassell had to go but can you see the irony? O'Leary gets rid of Vassell and Crouch for what I thought and still think was far less than they were both worth, in terms of player value and book value to Aston Villa, then both go and rub it in his face at every possible opportunity.

I've said for a long time that I don't think we'll get relegated but if there is one manager you don't really want in this situation it's David O'Leary.
He has demonstrated since the day he started in football management that he's bloody useless. The fact that we are three games from the end of the season and we could still go down is reason enough to sign the petition.
We need Birmingham City to lose tomorrow night when Blackburn visit St Andrews to be assured of safety but if they win there is still a chance that David O'Leary could make history, albeit slight.

Every single player should stand up today and pat themselves on the back. The players won it today. The football wasn't great but Aston Villa took their chances and beat Birmingham, as nearly all of us wanted.
Gary Cahill scored an excellent first goal for Aston Villa to make it 2-1 and Milan Baros got the other two. Chris Sutton gave the travelling Blues fans a little hope but they must have known deep down it was no hope.
Villa are now pretty much safe, all that is left to do is sack David O'Leary. |

Gabriel Agbonlahor scored the only goal for Aston Villa today and Thomas Sorensen let in four. He shouldn't be blamed for them all but the second was all his fault.
Aston Villa have a one dimensional manager and a one half team. We all know this and judging by the reaction of chairman Doug Ellis after the third goal went in during the first half he now sees it.
