Match Reports
A point at Sheffield is two points lost

It's only my opinion but we should have had two in the first half, maybe even three and if we'd taken the chances we would have won. The thing is we didn't create enough chances tonight and that is what has ultimately cost us the three points.

You can say to me that there are no certain three points in the Premiership these days but I'll disagree and tonight we should have had three points.

Hands up, Barry hands up: Villa leave Portsmouth with a point made

It was almost a complete reversal of what happened a few weeks ago when Juan Pablo Angel nearly cost us and Barry saved his blushes against Spurs. Yesterday Juan Pablo Angel saved the blushes of captain Gareth Barry.

I've seen the clip twenty odd times now and it looks that Barry is putting up his hands to protect his face. The ball wasn't travelling at a very fast speed but a natural reaction is to protect yourself.

Middlesbrough steal a point at Villa Park

I'm fed up and I suspect everyone is at the bad referring decisions we see almost every match these days. If the referee was atleast consistent today Aston Villa would have won and bagged three points.

As it was he wasn't even consistent. However we do have a few positives to take from the match. Olof Mellberg has a good right foot and made some very good crosses. We desperately need Sutton and probably a player much like Sutton in January or the summer.

Aston Villa miss Petrov and McCann but still make a point

The two players that have stood out for me all season were missing today. Petrov because of an injury and Smiler because he was banned. If both had played I think we would have picked up two more points today.

As it was, Thomas Sorensen saved the day with a couple of top class saves and Aston Villa leave Wigan with a nil nil draw. If you're a Wigan fan reading this you'll probably feel hard done by, as an Aston Villa fan you'll be thinking we did a job that had to be done.

Chelsea beat Aston Villa in the League Cup

As regular visitors to this site will know I'm not one to complain, often anyway, but with the news today that Charles Chandler Krulak, or Chuck as we like to call him, is visiting forums and listening to the fans we'd like to ask him to do something about Villa World or AVTV, or whatever they call it now.

We've got the presenter, Jack Somebody, giving 'shouts out' like they're going out of fashion and him talking about the bubble bursting. I don't tune in, or more importantly pay the money, to listen to him talk about bubbles bursting or giving 'shouts out' to people listening.

Three deserved points against Blackburn and Gabby was star man

When you win the games you know you're supposed to win you know you're heading in the right direction. Today was one of those games.

I mean do disrespect to Blackburn but they are one of those teams we should be beating week in week out and today we did the necessary. Three points at Villa Park and we looked like we had another gear if necessary.

Villa lose one game out of first ten with O'Neill, I'm still very happy

Sunday, 29 October 2006

It wasn't until the second half that we saw the Aston Villa team from earlier in the season. It happened for me as soon as the formation changed from 4-4-2 to more of a 4-5-1 with either Gabby or Christ Sutton dropping deep.

We were never going to win playing 4-4-2 and since Luke Moore suffered his shoulder injury and we've been forced to play 4-4-2 things haven't worked out for us. One defeat this season is excellent but we are yet to win away from home which will be a concern.

Villa make the last 16 of the Carling Cup after beating Leicester City in extra time

I had a feeling we'd score three tonight, I just didn't think Leicester City would score two and we'd leave it until the last minute of extra time to finish them off.

By the sound of things Leicester keeper Paul Henderson was man of the match after making some fine saves and after deflecting a Gareth Barry penalty in the 90th minute. Barry scored the first penalty at the end of the first half to put Villa 2-1 up.

The draw with Fulham means Villa are still unbeaten

I wanted the win, not only because I predicted it but because I had already predicted the right results earlier in the day on my betting slip. I stood to win a nice few quid if Villa won but we can't always win.

The result isn't as disappointing as it could have turned out, Villa I think only had three shots on target and when you score one out of three you've got to be happy.

A draw with Spurs and the 100% home record is gone

The first half was Spurs, the second half Villa and I'm assuming that most will say a draw was a fair result. I say we should have won and a freak few minutes with Juan Pablo Angel cost us the game.

Angel isn't to be blamed but for the money he gets paid each week you'd think he'd be able to score from the penalty spot. A fantastic goal from Gareth Barry was needed in the end to salvage a point.
