The Lerner Galleries and Spurs reach League Cup final
Written by Damian

First to the £5mn. donation by Randy Lerner to the National Portrait Gallery. The cynic in me says he's looking for a knighthood or residency but the nice guy side says, he's simply a generous chap.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, I'll explain. Randy Lerner has given the institution's largest single donation to date and the ground-floor galleries are being renamed the Lerner Galleries in recognition.

Mellberg to sign with Juve and Moore off to Glasgow

Add Gary Cahill to the list of players leaving and for all the talk of Martin O'Neill as an excellent man manager someone will soon start to question why so many people want off.

It won't be me, I'm just saying someone will. Anyway, reports in Italy today are suggesting that Mellberg is about to sign a pre-contract deal to join the Italian giants in July and we've now got confirmation that Luke Moore also wants out.

WEBLASH AH AH: Cahill bid rejected but he is for sale

It's confirmed. Gary Cahill can leave the club if the valuation is met. I'll be very disappointed to see him leave, if he does leave, but if the decision is his then it will ultimately be his mistake.

Martin O'Neill has given permission to Birmingham City to talk to the player and he's had offers from other clubs - none of which have been accepted.

Aston Villa held to draw at Anfield

We should have had three points tonight and I'm actually quite disappointed we didn't but I'm not disappointed at the display and I'm actually quite happy.

I'm so happy in fact that I'm not going to spend the next thirty minutes writing down my views, instead I'm going to have another drink and do it tomorrow instead.

No move for Jermain Defoe and the punt

Jermain Defoe isn't coming to Aston Villa. Well, that's the impression I've got from the comments made by Martin O'Neill recently.

It's a pity Defoe wasn't at Bodymoor having a look around and it's a pity that terms were not discussed, but I suppose Martin O'Neill can't say those things happened otherwise we'd see Spurs telling their supporters that Aston Villa have permission to talk to the player.

WEBFLASH AH AH: Gary Cahill allowed to talk to Birmingham City

Thursday, 17 January 2008

It's not that we seem to learn all the news from other outlets before we learn it from the club that annoys me, but the lack of respect that the act demonstrates. Why do people at the club tell other sources before telling their fans?

This time, we find out that Gary Cahill is allowed to talk to Birmingham City. I'm not sure on the general feeling on this matter so we've started a poll to the right.

Laursen signs and Defoe in talks

I took my online shopping yesterday offline and ended up buying a new TV so it looks like while I was out I missed quite a bit as it turns out Martin Laursen has signed a new contract and Jermain Defoe is in talks about a deal.

I've not seen anything on the club site about the Laursen thing but they do like to let the Birmingham papers know about these things first and the Defoe story is based on a 'source' telling the Birmingham Post.

Gareth Barry injured and it's Japan or bust for Thomas Sorensen

It's not that I don't think Barry is a good player, I do, it's that I'm not really sure what his best position is. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't think it's midfield.

I remember when Barry broke into the first team and I was more than impressed but it was a long time ago now and I don't think he's really kicked on, but it's not his fault.

First it was Tom Hanks, now it turns out Amy Winehouse is an Aston Villa fan

Sunday, 13 January 2008

Mark my words, before long we'll find out that the next King of England is an Aston Villa fan along with Tom Hanks and now Amy Winehouse.

Joking aside, it turns out that the one and only, thankfully, Amy Winehouse is also an Aston Villa fan and she's been walking the streets showing off her true colours; wearing an Aston Villa badge!

Three goals and three points for Aston Villa
Written by Damian
Saturday, 12 January 2008

John Carew scored twice and for good measure and a little more pull in contract talks, Martin Laursen scored the other.

Laursen has now scored 6 this season and he's now our joint second top scorer along with Maloney and Carew and only one goal behind Gabby.
