Wasn't going to talk about it: Wayne Routledge leaving Spurs for Villa
Written by Damian
Wednesday, 30 January 2008

It's still speculation, until the club confirm it, but Sky Sports understand that Wayne Routledge is having a medical at Villa today and if they think that, they're probably spot on.

In fact, we'll probably see him in the shirt on Sky Sports before we do on the club site - but I'm walking away from that now.

Richard FitzGerald has resigned as Chief Executive Officer of Aston Villa Football Club.

Personally, I don't like this news and think that Mr FitzGerald was making strides in the right direction.

WEBFLASH AH AH: Gary Cahill set to join Bolton
Written by Damian
Monday, 28 January 2008

Once again, the club are not telling us this, instead it comes from loads of other news sources so maybe a bid hasn't been accepted by Villa from Bolton for Gary Cahill?

Of course, just because the club site is saying nothing doesn't mean it isn't true and doesn't mean it didn't happen last week. I mean, we're only fans, right?

Mellberg signs for Juventus, but stays for the season
Written by Damian
Monday, 28 January 2008

Olof Mellberg has signed for Juventus in a deal that will likely see him in finish out his top flight professional career in Italy.

The good news, if there really can be with us losing a very good player, is he'll be staying with us until the end of the season. I can already see the Viking hats and comedy beards been sold out for the Wigan match at Villa Park in May.

Aston Villa 1 Blackburn 1

It ended all square and we were probably the luckier of the two sides. I'm not going into details as I've got to rush off for dinner but Doc is back from his holiday and will be doing a report later.

I will say that we're lucky we're quite good at set pieces and we've got a good keeper in Scott Carson.

The Lerner Galleries and Spurs reach League Cup final

Wednesday, 23 January 2008

First to the £5mn. donation by Randy Lerner to the National Portrait Gallery. The cynic in me says he's looking for a knighthood or residency but the nice guy side says, he's simply a generous chap.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, I'll explain. Randy Lerner has given the institution's largest single donation to date and the ground-floor galleries are being renamed the Lerner Galleries in recognition.

Mellberg to sign with Juve and Moore off to Glasgow
Written by Damian
Tuesday, 22 January 2008

Add Gary Cahill to the list of players leaving and for all the talk of Martin O'Neill as an excellent man manager someone will soon start to question why so many people want off.

It won't be me, I'm just saying someone will. Anyway, reports in Italy today are suggesting that Mellberg is about to sign a pre-contract deal to join the Italian giants in July and we've now got confirmation that Luke Moore also wants out.

WEBLASH AH AH: Cahill bid rejected but he is for sale
Written by Damian
Tuesday, 22 January 2008

It's confirmed. Gary Cahill can leave the club if the valuation is met. I'll be very disappointed to see him leave, if he does leave, but if the decision is his then it will ultimately be his mistake.

Martin O'Neill has given permission to Birmingham City to talk to the player and he's had offers from other clubs - none of which have been accepted.

Aston Villa held to draw at Anfield

Monday, 21 January 2008

We should have had three points tonight and I'm actually quite disappointed we didn't but I'm not disappointed at the display and I'm actually quite happy.

I'm so happy in fact that I'm not going to spend the next thirty minutes writing down my views, instead I'm going to have another drink and do it tomorrow instead.

No move for Jermain Defoe and the punt
Written by Damian
Saturday, 19 January 2008

Jermain Defoe isn't coming to Aston Villa. Well, that's the impression I've got from the comments made by Martin O'Neill recently.

It's a pity Defoe wasn't at Bodymoor having a look around and it's a pity that terms were not discussed, but I suppose Martin O'Neill can't say those things happened otherwise we'd see Spurs telling their supporters that Aston Villa have permission to talk to the player.
