Gather round: Once upon a time, there was a news reporter called Bill and boy, did he get it wrong

Martin O'Neill has publicly humiliated Bill Howell this evening after the Birmingham Mail reporter claimed that Gareth Barry could leave Aston Villa, if the price was right.

Now, there is no evidence whatsoever, in fact quite a lot of reporting to the contrary, to suggest Martin O'Neill would be happy to see Barry leave, but Bill has quickly created the headline, as if he was about to walk on the set of Jackanory.

Aston Villa in the Intertoto and this is how it's going to work

Right, we've got Intertoto football for next season and with a little help from a few forum users, we've sort of figured out how it's all going to work.

We've kept checking the official club site, but honestly, was I that stupid to think they'd be up to date or helpful?

London hoodoo continues but Blues are relegated and Villa are in Europe

Goals from Ashley Young and Gareth Barry were enough to get a point in London and four goals from Birmingham City were enough to confirm our Intertoto spot for next season.

Surely somebody will mention that they did us a favour today, even though in the end it wasn't needed.

The stuff of legend: Mellberg gives away a shirt to all fans at West Ham

It's been rumoured these past couple of weeks but now it's now confirmed; Mellberg has given the travelling supporters of Aston Villa a free shirt upon arrival at West Ham.

They're not signed, which was the other part of the rumour, but rumour has it he ran out of ink.

Berger says sorry, but the damage is done and he's dropped

Following his comments the other day, Patrik Berger, who really probably doesn't care one way or the other, will not be included in the squad that travel to West Ham this weekend.

Martin O'Neill has told the club web site that he was disappointed with the comments Berger made and surprised.

Who's a naughty boy then? Could it be Patrik Berger

Quite a few players from yesterday are probably never going to play in claret and blue at Villa Park again and it was quite a sad day.

One of those particular players, Patrik Berger, is now using his free time to coax current Aston Villa players out of Villa Park.

Gloss it over any way you want, we just didn't want it enough today

We lost today probably because the team we were playing wanted Premier League football next season more than we wanted a hope of automatic qualification to UEFA Cup football next season. Nothing more, nothing less.

In fact, I could say we were poor but that might be an over statement, but if it was, it wouldn't be by much.

Ten minutes with, the legend that is, Olof Mellberg

Tuesday, 29 April 2008

It's his last game at Villa Park in claret and blue this weekend and I've got a sneaky feeling that he's going to get a pretty big send off.

To put the icing on the cake of this website for this season, we've been given the green light, by the man himself, to ask him a few questions and seeing as I'll have difficulty coming up with them all by myself, I'm asking for some help.

Ashley Young named in the PFA Premier League team of the year

After scoring the number of goals he has scored this season, Cristiano Ronaldo was always going to win the PFA Player of the Year award, so I guess congratulations are in order.

The big news from the awards, for us Aston Villa fans anyway, is that Webcam Ashley has made the team of the year, along with other midfielders Gerrard, Ronaldo and Fabregas.

Battle Royale: Everton 2 Aston Villa 2
Written by Damian
Sunday, 27 April 2008

Basically, it was a battle but a battle that Aston Villa met and stood up to. The only negative thing is, Aston Villa never really went out to win it until they had to.

We went behind twice and came back to equal the score twice and apart from a free kick after thirty minutes we never really looked like we were going to take the lead.
