London hoodoo continues but Blues are relegated and Villa are in Europe

Goals from Ashley Young and Gareth Barry were enough to get a point in London and four goals from Birmingham City were enough to confirm our Intertoto spot for next season.
Surely somebody will mention that they did us a favour today, even though in the end it wasn't needed.

The stuff of legend: Mellberg gives away a shirt to all fans at West Ham

It's been rumoured these past couple of weeks but now it's now confirmed; Mellberg has given the travelling supporters of Aston Villa a free shirt upon arrival at West Ham.
They're not signed, which was the other part of the rumour, but rumour has it he ran out of ink.

Mike Ashley has balls of steel but will they protect him against King Kev?

I don't normally post about other football matters, but occasionally if something interests me, I get carried away.
You can see the other twenty-eight items since August 2005 here (http://www.avfcblog.com/content/category/1/22/70/). Newcastle United have interested me today.

Mattock and Stearman on the Martin O'Neill radar

The start of the season is always the most exciting time of the year for me, but today is also going to be quite interesting, if only because so much is still undecided.
Also, let's not forget that at midnight, the transfer window opens!

A lesson in Latin, French and Spanish for Martin O'Neill

Martin O'Neill is, I'm guessing now as I don't want to make a statement of fact about Martin O'Neill, quite frustrated at all this Gareth Barry to Liverpool talk and it's possible he's little more annoyed at Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez.
Towards the end of his press conference (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7392999.stm) yesterday, Martin O'Neill said he was going to figure out how to say no in Latin and French to Rafa, because he doesn't know any other way to say it. Well, we've gone one step further on got the Spanish for him.

Rumour of the day: Jens Lehmann

It's a rumour from the Express and Star, but it's actually one I wouldn't mind, when you put it into context.
The rumour is, Martin O'Neill is interested but that the real target is very much American Brad Guzan (http://www.avfcblog.com/content/view/2211/70/), with Lehmann as the quality, experienced Premier League head.

My Aston Villa season review: Just praise and a confident feeling for next season

It's easy to get annoyed when we lose to Fulham. It's also very easy when you've won three on the bounce and scored fifteen goals, to get carried away.
What's also very easy, is to forget about what is happening at Aston Villa Football Club, which is why it's nice to use the little search box on the site and look back every now and then.
