Adam I havent yet read your articles about the other players yet, but will do when I get a chance. Thought it was a good read. I r'ber Platty comming back and scoring against us @VP in a 1-1 draw with Aresenal around Dec 1995. But the Barry statement about going to a top 4 club to better his England chances summed up Platt's affection towards Villa. Also I think he was already taking Italian lessons 6 months before he left Villa when we struggling in the league. Talk about looking after number 1. - Sasa

Sasa, you're absolutely right, and it's even more embarrassing considering I wrote about that in the last article in this series. In this case I meant to say: 'the first goal from a Villa player for England in a World Cup.' Whoopsy. Any chance of a correction, Damian? - Adam...

Quality player but the man's got no time for Villa. At least McInally and John Gregory show some affection towards Villa as pundits. Also was he the 1st Villa player to score at a WC? I think McParland got 5 goals in 1958, was he at Villa at the time? - Sasa

David Platt is my hero!

I'm 24 I remember 95'96 it was when I really got into watching football! I still got my old shirt although the white bits (like in the badge) are pink from a mistake in the washing machine. :(

I even have a signed football from the team with his signature and spinks etc I have to keep it in the cupboard though now because of the sun light :(

Come on you lions! :D - satch

Fantastic player. Three players almost won us the league between them under GT. McGrath, Sid and Platt. Every week it was the same, McGrath winning the ball, feeding it to Sid, who would caress a pass for Platty to run on to and score. Was beautiful in its simplicity.

Happy memories -

Platt saying on his debut away at Blackburn that there were more Villa fans there than he was used to have watching him in total at Crewe.

That headed goal against Bradford in front of 35,000 fans in the 2nd div.

Going through that spell of scoring in every home game (was it 5 games on the bounce, or 9 games?).
