But the Barry statement about going to a top 4 club to better his England chances summed up Platt's affection towards Villa. Also I think he was already taking Italian lessons 6 months before he left Villa when we struggling in the league. Three players almost won us the league between them under GT. McGrath, Sid and Platt. Every week it was the same, McGrath winning the ball, feeding it to Sid, who would caress a pass for Platty to run on to and score. Was beautiful in its simplicity. Happy memories - Platt saying on his debut away at Blackburn that there were more Villa fans there than he was used to have watching him in total at Crewe. That headed goal against Bradford in front of 35,000 fans in the 2nd div.
