wonderfully written piece, full of fascinating insights that explain a lot about Andy Grey's Villa history.

Thanks Adam for the concise summary of this Villa legend.

And as for the comment above about him not being "humble" in the pubs, why on earth should he? Let him be, or shake his hand and thank him for what he did for our club. - sladey

A great Villan.

I too was at the Liverpool match in 1976. I believe the score at half time was the same at full time - 5-1!

Another great game that I remember with AG was against MU at Villa Park. AG scored the winner in a 3-2 thriller. A brilliant cross from Graydon was clinically despatched by AG at the far post. On a personal note this was the last match my Grandad saw at Villa Park. To top it all it was also Match of the Day. (remember in those days there was only coverage of a couple of matches a week).

Proud History.

Growing up as a teenager, and going to school near Villa Park, Andy Gray was always my favourite player. Strength, bravery and skill were totally ispirational and summed up everything that a Villa player should have in their locker then and now.

Does anyone else remember "Star Soccer" with Hugh johns on Sunday lunchtimes ATV in the midlands? Andy scored a fantastic header from the edge of the box in the opening credits, which still sticks in the memory.

I later worked for a golf partner of Andy's but never managed to meet my hero, but heard a few stories nontheless! A legend off the field as well!

Ask yourselves what Andy would fetch on the transfer market, and how much a week he would command in today's premiership?

Andy Gray, my boyhood hero and favourite ever Villa player, thank you for some great memories. - Mick sorahan

Thanks Adam. In the past I've slagged Andy off a bit for his apparent dismissal of his Villa days. Little did I know the truth. Humble pie doesn't taste very nice.
