It's the only rumour on the BBC Gossip pages but according to that page and they're quoting the Mirror, Martin O'Neill is interested in paying £4mn. for Reading striker Kevin Doyle.
I'll say this; if he does it quickly I'm sure it will be enough to convince Gareth Barry to stay and that the intentions of Randy Lerner are sincere.

I'm yet to hear it in a quiz, but I'm sure it will come up at some point: Who scored the first competitive goal at the Emirates Stadium?
Not Thierry Henry, not Cesc Fabregas, not Robin van Persie. The answer, as every Villan knows, is Olof Mellberg.

The internet is a wonderful thing, mainly for the amount of information - true and not so true - it can spread throughout the world in an instant.
This afternoon it has told the world that Villa are keen on Valencia's Marco Caneira and that the unnamed club that has bid for Le Mans' Yoann Pele may well be us too.

It's Bill Howell, so you've got to question it, but according to Bill, Martin O'Neill is interested in Sebastian Eguren.
Never heard of him? Probably made up player from a computer game that Bill was playing last night. If I'm wrong, which I am, he's probably a name Bill picked up from someone in the pub.

Right, we know it's silly season but the good folks over at the The Guardian are really starting to get me excited.
Not because of Steve Sidwell, which doesn't seem to want to go away, but Diego, the Brazilian attacking midfielder that Martin O'Neill is apparently interested in.

I absolutely love the transfer window; not just because of the optimism we create and develop for next season, but because we actually get to talk about players, football and have some glimmer of hope that we'll get what we really want.
The nice big rumour of the day is David Bentley from Blackburn and you know what, I think he's within reach and would be an absolutely perfect addition to the team.

Martin O'Neill has publicly humiliated Bill Howell this evening after the Birmingham Mail reporter claimed that Gareth Barry could leave Aston Villa, if the price was right.
Now, there is no evidence whatsoever, in fact quite a lot of reporting to the contrary, to suggest Martin O'Neill would be happy to see Barry leave, but Bill has quickly created the headline, as if he was about to walk on the set of Jackanory.

First off, I'm not his biggest fan, but the majority love him, so I take that on board when I think about Gareth Barry and Aston Villa.
I've also been wrong before and there is every chance I am this time, but I just don't think Barry is going anywhere and certainly not to Liverpool, I mean why Liverpool?

I'm not sure if the newspapers just search the web for previous links to players and just print them again, because we were first linked to the Pompey midfielder last year.
Now, I like Mendes and from the few times I've seen him I can't help but think there is something special about his game. He also sort of fits in with the Martin O'Neill plan and he's not playing week in week out at Pompey at the moment.
